Opposing thoughts on Victor Magtanggol

WILL the newest primetime series of GMA Network, “Victor Magtanggol”, win the hearts of many viewers? Will it beat “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” of the rival network in the ratings game?

Since it premiered last July 30, we have already heard and read numerous reviews about the pilot episode and predictions about the “future” of this latest Kapuso offering. Negative comments and memes have also been among the most common things we have seen on social media.

A number of netizens have even described the Alden Richards-starrer as a “rip off” of the highly popular and powerful Marvel superhero Thor. Fans of the American comic character have claimed that Victor’s life story (including his power that comes from his hammer) has semblance with that of Thor’s. There have been some who likewise popularized “Vic-Thor” to emphasize their allegation that the newest Pinoy superhero’s name is completely a copycat.

On his Instagram account, the lead actor shared a photo of him as Victor Magtanggol following his show’s premiere. This gathered mixed reactions from other IG users.

“Ganda ng visual effects.. Ndi puchu puchu kgaya ng ibang local na fantaserye.. Ang galing ng casts at ganda ng story.. May laman.. Sa mga bashers/haters, magbasa muna ng norse mythology para may info kayo at hindi magmukhang tanga,” @itsmeemjhay21 wrote.

This was supported by another follower, @shrimpiix_glennmark, who said that “Ang Ganda - Ganda Lalo Na Nung Nag Transform Ka Gabi.”

While his fans have been ecstatic to see him again every night in a different role, there have been others who are not happy with “Victor Magtanggol.”

“Talaga ORIGINAL CONCEPT?? Kase i can sense marvel'THOR VIBES EH...” @karmaisarealbit wrote.

One IG user suggested to boycott the series, while another said that it’s “corny.”

Meanwhile, @katepen920 shared that “My son liked your series VM.. hope its ok to give a bit of suggestion.. sana konting angas pa sa character medyo boy next door pa rin ung dating mo as Victor.”

Apart from this suggestion, few fans insisted that Maine Mendoza should be part of the show, and that she should be the leading lady, and not Janine Gutierrez.

Amid these opposing thoughts on “Victor Magtanggol,” it is my personal wish that Alden would further improve as days go by, and that the writers would introduce unique twists to its plot. Of course, let us give the entire team the chance to prove themselves. Anyway, the show just started. I am pretty sure, the network has something exciting in store for its viewers.
