THE indomitable spirit of Dabawenyos did not fail to shine through as Popstar Royalties Sarah Geronimo and Original Pinoy Music (OPM) Rock Legend Bamboo performed at the SMX Convention Center, Friday evening, September 22, despite the rain pouring in since the afternoon leading to some roads in the city flooded and several commuters stranded.

Still, thousands of people flocked to SMX eager to see both artists perform their iconic songs. Outside the venue people were already queuing, some with their lightsticks and albums in hand excited for an autograph or a chance to have a selfie with their idols.

From children down to the elderly, everybody was ecstatic to hear the popstar princess showcase her powerful vocals and Bamboo’s head-banging rock songs. At exactly 8:30 in the evening, Sarah and Bamboo kicked off the concert with their opening performances of ‘Kilometro’ and ‘Elesi’ which were then followed by their powerful rendition of ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.

The venue shook with cheers and shouts from the audience as they jammed into the songs that were sung by the two, such as Hallelujah, Kisapmata, and Noypi.

Of course, the Dabawenyos did not fail to showcase their singing prowess as they sang along with Sarah singing Himala. Sarah playfully halted her singing as she listened to how the crowd reacted and sang each part.

In the middle of the concert, Sarah expressed her delight over sharing the stage with Bamboo, emphasizing how she only used to listen to the rock artist but is now performing with him on one stage, and on a concert tour at that.

After belting out her powerful vocals in the song Himala, the duo then performed duets that they love performing together.

Bamboo also showed how versatile his vocal range is as he sang melancholic songs that gave the crowd a ‘senti vibe’.

The duo performed several covers such as Just Give Me a Reason by P!nk feat. Nate Ruess, The Man Who Can’t Be Moved by The Script, and Somewhere Only We Know by Keane.

A netizen online even said “I’d like to believe it’s actually [Sarah] G’s lovely voice that made the Gods intervene and control the weather ‘blushing emoji’. Nihinay ang ulan. Abi ko nga si pastor lang ang naa remote. Kuyaw gyud ug hatak sila Sarah G ug Bamboo [The rain stopped. I thought that the pastor only had the remote. Sarag G and Bamboo are on a whole new level].”

As the audience was treated to over a two-hour astonishing performance of the country’s best performers, some of them could not even contain their excitement over seeing the two icons on stage and were shouting their lungs out saying “I love you Sarah” or “I love you Bamboo”.

The concert was even attended by Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte and several other well-known influencers such as Bite King and Boy Pimple.

Around 11 p.m., the duo ended the concert singing a total of 31 songs, and some lucky Dabawenyos with all access and VVIP tickets had a chance for a picture opportunity with the two.

Their two-hour performance was not enough to encompass one of the greatest performers of their generation because Dabawenyos kept asking for more, requesting their favorite songs like Forever’s Not Enough and Isa Pang Araw.

The Sarah G x Bamboo Concert was produced and promoted by EKG Productions Company, owned and managed by Mr. and Mrs. Emil and Kate Gayap. The concert will have its next legs on October 13 at Cebu City IEC Convention Center (IC3) and on November 24 at the Sta. Rosa Laguna Multi-Purpose Complex. RGP
