BRAVING the waves of change for 28 years and counting, Sunstar Davao remains steadfast in portraying the role it plays in the community, guided by the principles and values of responsible journalism.

As SunStar Davao celebrated its 28th anniversary last September 7, not only the community it serves but also the people behind the pages and digital contents of this community media have supported its pursuit of empowering the voices of the community and enriching the lives of people within its scope.

"As a community media navigating the waves of changes in storytelling, we anchor ourselves on the principles and values of responsible journalism. This is how we empower our community, this is how we enrich their lives," Cristina Alivio, OIC-Editor-in-Chief of SunStar Davao, said.

This year encapsulates the theme "Empowering Voices, Enriching Lives." Through the years, SunStar Davao has thrived to provide platforms for the public, both on print and digital, telling stories and amplifying the voices of the community, especially those who are voiceless.

"For a little less than three decades, platforms to share stories have become diverse, but Sunstar Davao rode the waves of the changing times to make sure everybody is informed and is kept in the loop," Alivio expressed.

With its aim to grow alongside the community it serves, SunStar Davao strives to innovate and relate to its audience by riding the waves of digitalization, offering access to factual information, and telling stories of the community through major social media platforms.

"As we adapt to digitalization and the social media explosion, Sunstar Davao also adopted different platforms not only to inform and to share stories but also to battle misinformation and disinformation," Alivio shared.

"The varied platforms that Sunstar Davao is using now are the tools we employ to continue empowering voices and enriching people’s lives in the process. And this is our direction as we celebrate our 28th anniversary on September 7," she added.

As SunStar Davao marked its 28th anniversary, everyone in the company happily celebrated the momentous event, sharing a sumptuous lunch, and strengthening the bond they have created over the years.

The event was made possible with the help of the following sponsors: Aldwin Navarro of AL Navarro Accounting Services, young entrepreneur CJ Conde of Amaranta Suites, NCCC, SM Supermalls Davao, Hid'n Coffee, and Vice Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy.

Twenty-eight years of service is no easy feat; yet, SunStar Davao stays true to its commitment of empowering the voices of the community, enriching their lives in the process. DSCA
