Maragusan road trip: A family-friendly escape in Davao de Oro

Maragusan road trip: A family-friendly escape in Davao de Oro
Published on

Call me a late bloomer, but I didn’t realize Maragusan, Davao de Oro, has so many family-friendly destinations — especially ones that are interesting for small children who grew up in the city.

The change of scenery was a learning experience, especially for my 7-year-old daughter, who prefers city life. Maragusan has now become her favorite destination after Bohol. (Or maybe she just won’t forget how an insect flew into her eye and caused a little moment — hehe!)

For those who haven’t been here, it’s just a four-to-five-hour drive from Davao City. There are plenty of places to visit, but here’s our itinerary for three days and two nights:

Day 1: Arrival

After a long drive from Davao City, we kicked off our Maragusan adventure with a delicious dinner at Maragusan Grill (formerly Cielo’s Kamayan). It was the perfect way to start our trip, as they’re known for their mouthwatering barbecue.

With full stomachs, we checked into Meadows Maragusan Hotel, ready to rest and recharge for the adventures ahead.

Day 2: Exploring Maragusan’s natural wonders

Stop 1: Lusaran Mountain Garden Resort – A Hidden Gem

We started the day at Lusaran Mountain Garden Resort, a place we stumbled upon unexpectedly. It turned out to be a great spot — who would have thought a leisure destination would have a chapel inside?

Stop 2: Lunch at Dolly’s – A budget-friendly food stop

After a morning of exploring, we stopped for lunch at Dolly’s Kitchen House Cafe & Resto, known for its affordable yet filling rice bowls and chicken meals.

Stop 3: Tagbibinta Falls Mountain Resort

Next, we visited Tagbibinta Falls Mountain Resort, a sacred spot for the Mansaka indigenous community. Though it was affected by Typhoon Pablo in 2012, it remains a must-visit destination.

Surrounded by tall trees and lush greenery, the ice-cold water was the perfect way to cool off! No wonder locals love to take a dip here, especially on hot days.

Stop 4: Ayuste Highland Mountain Resort – A relaxing end to the day

Then, we made our way to Ayuste Highland Mountain Resort. The drive had a few rough patches, but the peaceful mountain views made the trip worth it. A rainbow even made an appearance!

We ended the night with a warm dinner at the resort and stayed overnight, falling asleep to the cool mountain breeze.

Day 3: Heading back to Davao

We woke up early, hoping to catch the famous sea of clouds at Ayuste, but nature had other plans. Though the mist wasn’t as thick as expected, the crisp mountain air and breathtaking scenery still made for a peaceful and refreshing morning.

After enjoying the view, we packed up and began our drive back to Davao City, carrying with us memories of stunning landscapes, hidden gems, and delicious food.

Maragusan, you never disappoint! Whether you’re looking for relaxation or exploration, this road trip was one for the books.
