Talent is a human ability that we can use in chasing our dreams.

Just last Tuesday, around 50 children from Davao City and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur started to chase their dreams by showing their talents on stage during their recital under the music program of Peter Ian Music and Events Studio (Pimes) at the Grand Menseng Hotel along A. Pichon Street, formerly Magallanes Street, Davao City.

The children showcased their impressive talents in front of their families and relatives.

Varieties of musical abilities were shown by children aged five to 16 years old. Some of them showcased their ability by playing the piano and some have shown a glimpse of their breathtaking voice in singing.

The music program is held every summer for children to have fun enhancing their talents in music while they have no classes.

The person behind the successful event is the music guru of the University of Mindanao (UM) Chorale Peter Ian Buaya with the collaboration of his former choir student in UM Jhester Hornejas who is also a teacher in Sta. Cruz National High School, specializes in the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) Music. The latter also handled the 15 recitalists from Sta. Cruz composed of elementary and high school student who went to a 12-session workshop of piano and voice lesson within six weeks.

In an interview, Buaya said that the main reason of the collaboration is to share his gift in music not only in Davao City but also in the provinces of Mindanao and also to promote music lessons in Sta. Cruz which is also his hometown.

The Voices of the South Children's Choir (VSCC), which is a community-based group composed of children from different schools in Davao City with ages ranging eight to 16 years old, and the University of Mindanao Chorale also performed during the event.

VSCC will go to Singapore on July 1 for the 11th Orientale Consentus International Choral Festival Kid's Category Competition. The group will compete in three categories - Folklore category, Sacred category and Mix category.

Buaya and the rest of the University of Mindanao (UM) Chorale emerged 2016 Grand Prix winner.
