THE Davao City Agriculturist’s Office (Cagro), through its Fishery Resources Management Services Division, has advised fisherfolk to refrain from going out to sea due to the threat posed by Tropical Depression Crising.

Aimee C. Evora, senior aquaculturist and acting head of the Fishery Resources Management Services Division of Cagro, said that although the city is not directly in the path of the tropical depression, fishermen should avoid venturing out to sea and must ensure their boats are securely tied.

“Wala ka kabalo even though dili ta directly ma-apektuhan sa bagyo but possible ang mga storm surge ug kusog ang balod (You don't realize it even though we may not be directly affected by the typhoon, storm surges and strong waves are still possible),” she said

Evora also urged fish cage operators to secure their cages in anticipation of rough waters, as the impact of the tropical depression on the city remains uncertain.

She called on fisherfolk in coastal barangays to remain vigilant.

“Kung pwede mahimo ang atoang mga mananagat dili lang sa managat karon and paminaw gyud kanunay sa atoang mga advisories para ma-secure gyud ang safety (If possible, our fishermen should avoid going out to fish for now and always listen to our advisories to ensure their safety),” she said.

Evora reported that, as of 2025, around 7,000 fisherfolk are registered in Davao City, including fish cage operators.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that Tropical Depression Crising is expected to make landfall in Cagayan or the Babuyan Islands. Pagasa also stated that the tropical depression will enhance the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, bringing heavy rainfall to Central and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, the Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

“It is moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h. Southwest Monsoon affecting Mindanao, and the western sections of Luzon and Visayas,” Pagasa wrote in their weather bulletin as of 4 a.m. on July 17, 2025. RGP
