A HERD of runaway horses trotting through the busy streets of Davao City on Monday, June 9, 2025, has captured the attention of Dabawenyos after videos of the seemingly surreal scene went viral online.
More than 10 horses were spotted on J.P. Laurel Avenue, calmly navigating through city traffic as startled motorists and pedestrians looked on. The unexpected sight was caught on video by local residents and quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing a mix of amazement, laughter, and humorous commentary.
"Welcome to Sub-Saharan" and "Asa na maning mga kabayo?, “Datu gyud ang tag-iya ani ba”, were just some of the viral reactions from amused netizens, as the footage racked up thousands of views and shares.
In an interview with SunStar Davao on June 10, Bajada Police station commander Police Major Marc Anthony C. Egos confirmed that they quickly responded to the situation and the horses were safely secured and returned to the Tigatto farm later that afternoon.
He also stated that the animals had escaped around noon and wandered over eight kilometers across the city. They were eventually found in a parking lot of a coffee shop in Lanang. He, however, did not mention the owner of the horses.
“Nabalik na sa Tigatto ang mga kabayo sa hapon pa lang. Nag sugod gyud na sila sa Buhangin unya didto na namo sya na-save sa Lanang,” he said.
(The horses were already brought back to Tigatto that same afternoon. They started from Buhangin, and we were able to secure them in Lanang).
Egos emphasized that although the situation was unusual, no horses or people were hurt.
