THE regional office of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) is warning individuals and firms engaged in selling beachfront lots to stop their activity as the department will be going after them.

“Naa pa gihapon sa Facebook, this is a warning ayaw hulata na muadto mi didto (They are still on Facebook, this is a warning do not wait that we will be going there),” says DHSUD-Davao Regional Director Atty. Miguel Palma Gil warned sellers of beachfront lots during his recent guesting at Kapehan sa Dabaw held at SM City Davao.

He said the illegal sale of lots is being done in Mati City, Sta. Fe, Caraga, and in Lupon in Davao Oriental.

Palma Gil said these firms would advertise lots with beachfront or beach access on social media. He said they have already issued cease-and-desist orders to several firms such as 9-Star Realty, JMW Realty.

He said many individuals particularly OFWs are being enticed to buy these properties because of the beautiful beach, only to find that the property has no proper access, no utilities such as power and water, no access to main roads, and the development is not approved by the local government unit.

“Daghan na nabiktima (there are many who have been victimized),” Palma Gil said. The DHSUD-11 head warned buyers to be very careful in dealing with these sellers as some firms have disappeared after getting payments from their victims.

“Ang 9-Star dili na makit-an, wala nay office pero nagadawat og payments (9-Star can no longer be found, they no longer have an office but they are still accepting payments),” Palma Gil said.

The regional director said they are constantly monitoring these beachfront selling activities on Facebook and are coordinating with the various local governments in the region.

He said the local government of Mati is going after these beachfront sellers and the municipality of Maco is coordinating with DHSUD in stopping these illegal activities. PIA DAVAO
