THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) successfully concluded the historic simultaneous national peace rally of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) on Monday, January 13, 2025, reporting a peaceful event with no incidents of violence or threats.
DCPO acting city director Police Colonel Hansel Marantan praised the religious and sociopolitical rally as a “resounding success” with no significant crimes.
“This success was made possible by the concerted efforts of DCPO personnel, along with the unwavering support of the Davao Security and Safety Clusters, who were strategically deployed to maintain public order, manage traffic, and safeguard both participants and the general public,” Marantan said in a statement.
The rally’s peaceful nature, he added, reflected the professionalism and dedication of law enforcement and security partners.
He commended the efforts of all personnel who ensured a seamless security operation, allowing the event to proceed without disruption.
The INC held its rally at multiple locations, including the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, Plaza Divisoria in Cagayan de Oro, and Rizal Park in Davao City.
In Davao, nearly 370,000 INC members from various Mindanao regions participated.
The participants expressed their intent to advocate for peace and unity, stressing that political divisions could harm the nation's unity. Their rally followed impeachment motions filed against Vice President Sara Duterte by lawmakers and civil society groups over allegations of corruption and constitutional violations during her tenure as Education Secretary.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos responded by questioning the impeachment efforts, stating that such actions would not benefit Filipinos.
"What will happen to them—if somebody files an impeachment? It will tie down the House, it will tie down the Senate. It will just take up all our time, for what? For nothing. None of this will help improve a single Filipino life. As far as I'm concerned, it's a storm in a teacup," Marcos said. DEF
