IN THE midst of memorizing medical terminologies and procedures, future medical doctors do know how to pause and have fun.
For this year’s Med Night, the first and second year medical students of the Davao Medical School Foundation (DMSF) decided for a boho and a coachella-like party, different from the usual semi-formal themed med nights.
According to Romny Espanto, the marketing officer of the Medical Student’ s organization Buklod Medisina, the concept was put together by their president Brylle June Imbo. Being a music lover himself, he suggested that their theme for that night be Coachella, highlighting the music festival element of the party.
Espanto added that the Med Night is a welcoming party for the freshmen students and is mostly attended by both the freshmen and sophomore. Although the third year and fourth year students are also welcome, their absence is very much understood because of a busier academic schedule.
On the evening of August 25, the Davao Convention and Trade Center was filled with music, lights, and wonderful bohemian booths and displays that well-matched the outfit of those who came. There was even face painting booth in one corner. People were also entertained and happy of the cotton candy, popcorn, and ice cream corners. There is also a mobile bar that spice up the night.
Since it’s a music festival, four bands competed during the Battle of the Bands where the BAND 4.1 came out victorous against Banda rito, banda roon (1st runner up), Hydrophilia Band (2nd runner up), and The Conrads (3rd runner up).
But what everyone did look forward to was the Mr. & Ms. Med Night where the questions concern relevant medical situations. In the end Ms. Med Night 2019 is Aileen Subibi while Mr. Med Night 2019 is Jayvee Herrera.
“It’s a breather for everyone. There’s a stigma that we don’t even sleep because we just study. But with this Med Night, we actually can party, be pretty, and have fun,” said Subibi whose Q&A portion discussed about the importance of sleeping more than too much studying.
On the other hand, Herrera congratulated and thanked the second year students who organized this year’s Med Night. He said it was such a success and they, the freshmen, did really have fun.
“Med Night is supposed to be the welcome for freshie. Kahit late ng one month, well-executed naman,” said Herrera whose Q&A portion tackled the stigma versus people who have undergone plastic surgery.
In the end, DMSF Med Night 2019 was such a success leaving all the attendees happy and once more ready to face academic challenges.
