Embracing the ‘pambahay’ fashion

THESE days, people are hardly going out. Despite this situation, you can still be fashionable in your “pambahay.”

Dabawenya entrepreneur Chinggay Estil-Quong is known for her beauty products and bag spa. However, with the pandemic, she found another brilliant idea, which came up after discovering a real-life scenario.

“When ECQ was implemented and we were forced to stay at home, I wanted to optimize my time and be productive. One afternoon, when I was browsing through my clothes, I realized that I have no decent pambahay,” she narrated.

Chinggay shared that while she tries to look good whenever she goes out, she just wears whatever is available when at home.

“So I thought that maybe a lot of people also share the same sentiment with me. Pambahay clothes were my least priority because I was always outside hustling, but now that I get to spend more time at home, I saw the need to also invest on these essentials,” she said.

Chinggay revealed that whenever she thinks of a new business idea, she follows the advice “scratch your own itch”.

“I always start with identifying things or problems that I want to solve in my own life,” she said. “Taking care of myself and my appearance is something that makes me feel good and it has always been important to me.”

Chinggay is among those who believe that when you look good, you feel good. Thus, the pambahay fashion she picks speak about being trendy and comfortable at the same time.

“It’s nice when you are prepared to meet anyone and you don’t need to hide or explain yourself for the way you look,” she pointed out. “We deserve to look our best every single day and being at home is not an exemption.”

Chinggay makes sure that she offers pieces which are cozy enough to wear all day long, and stylish enough, too, to wear for a last-minute online (video) meeting with friends or co-workers if you are working from home.

Her line of pambahay fashion includes those for both men and women and come in different sizes. She has clothes for toddlers, teens and adults. And all of these are reasonably priced.

With the current crisis, Chinggay encouraged her fellow entrepreneurs to see the “silver lining” in every cloud.

“Let us make each day a unique opportunity to innovate and get better. Business is not easy, at some point, it will test you, but if you are passionate about it, you will stick with it,”’she said.

She has no doubt that entrepreneurs are resilient and that they will overcome this difficult period and bounce back in no time.

“Let’s fall in love with the journey including the obstacles along the way. In this time if crisis, dare to think differently. Dream more, do more and become more,” concluded the pambahay fashion beauty.
