Organize and de-clutter your life – a four week guide

ORGANIZING and de-cluttering your stuff can really be difficult and exhausting especially for the busy souls out there.

With only a month left before the -ber months begin, I have prepared a four-week guide on how you can slowly but surely clean up your space.

Week 1- Clothes, Shoes, and Accessories

We are starting with the difficult and the major one here which are clothes, shoes, and accessories (bags, caps, etc.). In order to make de-cluttering easier, I suggest putting your stuff in piles: Keep, Donate/Sell. By putting all your stuff into piles it will make re-organizing them back to your closet easier. Doing this is also a great opportunity to help someone or make money out of your old stuff.

Week 2 – Personal hygiene products and makeup

This is an easy one for guys but it’s a different story for the girls especially those who are into makeup and skincare. Take this week to dispose empty bottles of shampoo and dispose your expired or old makeup. For girls, letting your old makeup products go is really hard but think of it as freeing up some space for new ones (*wink!).

Week 3 – Documents

A week dedicated for all your papers like receipts, bank statements, personal files, and the like. You can categorize your documents into two: short term storage for bills or receipts for example and long term storage which is for your important documents such as school credentials and birth certificate. This week is also the perfect time to scan and keep a digital copy of your important files. I also highly suggest shredding your documents before disposing them.

Week 4 – Digital files

Just like leaving out unread emails, we often overlook de-cluttering our digital files/devices. For this week, take your time to sort and delete unnecessary emails in order to save your drive space. Arrange your computer’s folders and try to keep your home screen clean (guilty here!). Take this week to sort your phone/tablets photos and back them up on your computer, and uninstall unused applications which are taking up your gadgets’ memory.

Basic rule for this cleaning guide: Don’t stress yourself too much and only spend 30 minutes to an hour of de-cluttering and organizing on weekdays and do the major de-cluttering and organizing during the weekends.

Until next week!
