VINTAGE Filipiniana dresses, bespoke ternos, custom-made gowns, refitted finery, off the rack numbers or online-acquired ensemble, the venue of the 54th Hijos de Davao was not short of elegant attires donned by guests who came to celebrate the longest celebration of Davaoeño camaraderie.
From the large crowd of attendees, quite number of graceful women stood out. Confidence would be the common factor, because whatever they chose to wear—made to measure or pret-a-porter matched with the right jewelry, coif and make-up—the women carried it well and exuded grace and sophistication.
It was a difficult task to narrow down the number to five. Here are the women who made it to The Best Dressed List for the 54th Hijos de Davao.
Catherine Lamanosa-Uy.
The Paul Cabral-designed terno is very “Modern Dalagang Pilipina”. Her peach gown was a take from the blushing dalaga and while the cut of the dress (crease-less figure hugging top that flows to a two-tiered bias bottom cut on the bias from the hips down) and embellishment (crystal beading that accentuate the curves of the upper body) would speak for modernity.

Kay Gempesaw
You got to be extra special to be able to pull off wearing an immaculate white dress, and Kay just did. She was radiant in a Paul Cabral “refitted” terno with rays of crystals and silver beads detail on the bodice. Kay completed the whole look with a 40’s-do with a white phalaenopsis bloom as accent.

Leah Nitorreda
Dressed for a gala, Leah had her share of admiring glances as she arrived in a sweeping black gown that emitted a shine where light hits the embellishment of the same ebony tone. Her half bias cut gown in tulle fabric, with patterned metallic black sequined detail was by Kenny Ladaga.

Arianna and Rochelle del Rosario
It’s in the genes. Young Arianna’s elegance turned heads her way with her total look wearing a Bobby Castillo gown-designed with to her specifications—jusi-tone with minimal embroidery of the same hue. Mom Rochelle paired well with her in her “refitted” vintage Pitoy Moreno gown in a striking blue color with details in green. They’re a winning mother and daughter team.

Atess Cruz
Slim and statuesque Atess Cruz came floating on the red carpet in a chic Rodel Macatangay two-piece ensemble. The boyfriend’s cotton white shirt—given a twist and made body hugging with puffed detail on the three-fourths-sleeved cuff—was paired with a deep-pleated A-line skirt in a striking shade of lime green. It may exude a casual vibe but the sheen—of the dress and her confidence—made it right for the formal gala.

The task of filling up the list is getting difficult with each year.
Although the Hijos de Davao is an annual gathering that brings out the glamourous side in us, the foundation’s objective rises above the one-night-in-a-year formal event. The civic organization’s objective to help alleviate Davao’s socio-economic standards remains top priority.
