Salvador: Of high tea and delectable bites in Cebu

WHERE do we meet? Any cuisine preference? These are the questions that always come up when trying to schedule a catch-up session. More so, if one is a visitor and trying to gather local friends who live or work from different sections of the city.

It wasn’t much of a problem when I visited Cebu to catch up with media friends. Frances Alfafara, the director of Sales and Marketing of Seda Ayala Center, said, “Since your planned gathering is in Ayala Center, why don’t you guys do it at Misto again? The restaurant is now serving buffet lunch and everyone can feast on the different cuisines offered on the buffet spread?” Who am I to say no?

The Seda hotel in Cebu enjoys a very convenient address. It’s at the center of the Ayala Business Park and right next to the Ayala mall. So whatever takes travelers to Cebu, either business or leisure—Seda will be the ideal “home” for the visit.

The convenience also applies to dining. While there are a good number of the restaurants in the next-door mall, Misto’s edge is its varied selection and the house specialties.

Even with their busy schedules, I got Luis, Niza, Toni, Doyzkie and Marco’s nods to meet at Misto.

Everyone has their fill of preferred bites. Some went for the cheeses and salads, one favored the Japanese offering, but I went straight to get a house specialty - Fried Tadyang.

All Misto restaurants are known to serve Filipino specialties on their spread. In Cebu, I was delighted to see the Glazed Crispy Dangit with sesame seeds, and GM Gwen dela Cruz had the Executive Sous Chef Gemma Limot whip up a couple more of Misto’s Cebu-inspired must-haves—the Kinilaw sa Gata and the Nilarang na Salmon.

Halo-Halo and Binignit for dessert, anyone? Yes, Misto has both!

How spoiled can we get? Really spoiled. As we chatted the lunch hours away, GM Gwen said we all should head up to the Club Lounge for High Tea. Why not? I personally wanted to see the High Tea offerings of Seda.

There were two menus, the traditional and the Filipino-inspired—and they served both!

It was another fun gathering with this bunch with interesting updates, hilarious stories and great food at the center of it all. Thank you very much GM Gwen and Frances for hosting another get-together of Davao and Cebu friends at Misto, Seda Ayala Center.
