MAWAB, Davao de Oro - A total of 223 marginalized Davaoeños with surgical diseases benefited from the three-day World Surgical Outreach Program (WSOP) at Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City on August 16 to 18, 2023.

The World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP); Duterte Cabinet Spouses Association, Inc. (DCSAI); Doctors and Surgeons of Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC)-Tagum City; and the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division through the Camp General Manuel T Yan Senior Station Hospital (CGMTYSSH), made the outreach program possible.

Dr. Eric de Leon, volunteer surgeon and Vice-President of WSFP, said that most surgeries they performed were cleft lip and cleft palate, goiters, gallstones, hernia, and other pediatric cases.

Likewise, around 40 doctors and nurses participated in the outreach program. Dr. De Leon added that WSFP aims to bring quality healthcare and surgical care to the marginalized sector of society.

"Kaya namin ginagawa itong mga missions na ito para yung mga backlog, yung mga hindi nagagawang surgeries ay magawa namin. We've been doing this for around six years already. Meron din kaming mga nakilalang ibang organizations which do the same, so ang ginagawa namin, ini-incorporate namin lahat ng grupo na ito para coordinated," Dr. De Leon added.

Major General Jose Eriel M Niembra, 10ID Commander, expressed his gratitude to the volunteer doctors and nurses of WSFP and other partner stakeholders for helping the marginalized Davaoeños suffering from surgical diseases. PR
