A TOTAL of 143 Olive Ridley hatchlings were released at the Menzi Beach Park in Mati City, Davao Oriental last February 26 to 28, 2023.

The release of the newly hatched turtles was made possible with the help of the Mati Watersports Association (MWA).

The turtles were taken care of by MWA for 48 days before being released to the sea.

The 81 hatchlings were first released on February 26 and followed on February 28 by 62 hatchlings.

Currently, there are more than 1,000 turtle eggs being cared for by MWA at the turtle nursery that can be found at the Menzi Visitors Information Office Center (MVIOC).

Meanwhile, on February 25, an Olive Ridley also spawned at MVIOC. With the help of MWA, 92 eggs were kept in the hatchery to protect them from predators.

According to MWA advisor George Plaza, almost every night, there are turtles laying eggs on the Dahican Beach.

He also added that the turtles choose the place where they will lay their eggs. One of the reasons why turtles lay eggs in Dahican is because of its cleanliness.

MWA conducts a coastal clean-up drive twice a week to maintain the cleanliness of the area.

MWA is an association in the city that protects and protects both of these turtle species.

This is just one sign that the ocean in the city of Mati is clean and abundant. (Mati CIO)
