THE two minors involved in the recent coastal road vandalism have yet to meet Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte for behavioral consultation.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, PCapt. Hazel Tuazon revealed via phone interview that these minors were already rescued on Monday morning, August 21, 2023.

“Nadakpan nato karon sila sir no and karon makigkita sila kay Mayor Baste regarding sa ilahang gibuhat,” (We rescued them today, and now they will meet with Mayor Baste for their actions),” she said.

The authorities identified the rescued minors as alias Brix, 17, and alias “Niwang”', 13. Both are residents of Purok 5, Barangay 76-A, Bucana, Davao City.

The official also said they have already been assisted by various agencies including the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao (DSWD-Davao) for the case.

“Giadto sila sa barangay tanod ug mga social workers nato para maasikaso ning mga minors” (The barangay tanod and our social workers have taken care of these minors),” she added.

It can be recalled that a certain part of the coastal road was scribbled using paint with slur words last August 21, 2023.

Netizens were quick to call out skaters; however, Tuazon clarified that the minors involved were not part of the skating community.

“Dili po sir, lahi pud tong grupo sa naga-skate po sir” (No sir, these minors are from a different group from the one who skates, sir),” she said.

Recently, Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) head Angel Sumagaysay said in an interview with SunStar Davao said their office has been consistently reminding people not to engage in vandalism

But “hard-headed people” continue to litter and vandalize the coastal road for some reason .

He also reminded individuals caught vandalizing will face charges in accordance with the Anti-Littering Ordinance as he calls on Dabawenyos to stay disciplined — that it should be common sense for people not to vandalize public properties.

“Makita natong daghan vandalism sa syudad, dili na dapat na i-remind na sa mga tao, naa man ta’y pangutok, kabalo man ta na tama ba ning bandalan ko ni o dili, nasa tao gyud na siya (We observe there are a lot of (properties being) vandalized in the city, the people should not be reminded anymore against it, we have common sense, we already knew whether vandalism is good or not, it’s in the people really),” Sumagaysay said.
