THE number of patients infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) who visited the New Davao Matina Gallera cockpit in Davao City climbed to 25. Death toll now at five.

Based on the update of the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao issued on Saturday, as of April 11, Davao Region posted a total of 90 patients positive for the disease with three new cases. On Friday’s data, the region recorded 87 confirmed cases.

Of the 87, the event has contributed 28.87 percent or 25 patients who have exposure to the derby cockpit in the regional statistics.

Also, among the 20 confirmed cases who were exposed to Covid-19 patients, four were exposed to infected patients who attended the derby cockfight.

Davao City has maintained the greatest number of Covid-19 positive patients with 74 cases, followed by Davao del Norte with nine, Davao Oriental with three, Davao del Sur with two, and Davao de Oro with two. Only the province of Davao Occidental remains to be free from the respiratory infection in the region.

DOH-Davao data further showed that five of the derby-goers died due to the disease, one of whom had a travel history to Manila and attended the event. Another patient who did not go to Matina Gallera but had exposure to a Covid-19 patient, who went to the cockpit, also perished.

On the number of patients who recovered as of 5 p.m. on Saturday, the figure jumped to 50 after two patients have recovered and tested negative in the second swab testing. DOH protocol says that once a patient has been tested negative and is in better condition, they will be allowed to go home provided that they will still observe self-quarantine for 14 days.

However, another patient also perished on April 11, bringing the death toll in the region to 14. Aside from exposure to Matina Gallera, some of the deaths had exposure to an infected person, had travel history in Manila, and to other places with confirmed cases.

For the contact tracing activity as of April 11, DOH-Davao said a total of 2,252 individuals has been traced and contacted who had close contact with the 84 patients established.

Among the 2,252 close contacts, DOH Davao surveillance team was able to interview and monitor 2,121 individuals.

Of the contacted individuals, a total of 717 of them had a history of exposure to confirmed cases linked to the New Davao Matina Gallera. For the breakdown, 174 are from Davao City, 238 from Davao del Norte, 135 from Davao del Sur, 90 from Davao Oriental, 29 from Davao Occidental, five from Davao de Oro, while 46 from other regions.
