77 nabbed at checkpoints since January

TASK Force Davao (TFD) reported that a total of 77 persons involved in illegal drugs were intercepted during their inspection at different checkpoints in Davao City from January 2018 up to present.

TFD commander Colonel Nolasco Mempin said Tuesday, September 24, that based on their data, they have recovered a total of 94.01 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P1.166 million and arrested 59 persons who allegedly attempted to sneak in shabu into the city.

The task force also seized from 18 persons a total of 14.01 kilograms of marijuana with an estimated street value of P1,681 million.

Mempin said that on September 24, a squad of Task Group Lawin conducting checkpoint operations in Sitio Licanan, Barangay Lasang, Bunawan District apprehended Benny V. Briz, 46, for alleged possession of illegal drugs paraphernalia.

Also recovered from his possession was one piece of elongated heat-sealed transparent sachet containing 0.3 gram white crystalline substance of suspected “shabu” with estimated street value of P4,500.

The suspect was about to enter the city onboard a Bachelor Express Bus from Tagum City. While at the inspection area, he reacted suspiciously, Mempin said.

The militiaman from the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu), who was conducting the inspection, asked the suspect to show the content of his right pocket, where the drug paraphernalia and the sachet of “shabu” were found.

The suspect and items were turned over to the Police Station Bunawan for proper disposition and for the filing of cases.
