9 Mati residents get free thyroid surgery

Nine residents of Mati City have successfully undergone free thyroid surgery at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) under the Health Care Provider Network Project of the city government.

The nine patients are the first batch of beneficiaries of the project headed by Mati City Health Office (CHO) in partnership with SPMC. The series of surgeries finished this month of May but the initial health screening began as early as March 2022.

The patients also benefited from free aftercare services provided by the SPMC Department of Surgery a week after the operation.

The Health Care Provider Network Project of CHO was enacted to provide Mati City residents free health care and financial assistance under the Universal Health Care act.

However, beneficiaries must be members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation since it will cover the initial cost of the surgery and the remaining cost will be shouldered by the city government through the Medical Assistance Program.

The CHO continues to identify possible beneficiaries to immediately resume to the next batch of beneficiaries who will undergo screening and surgery. (ICM with Mati CIO)
