A 13-year-old student from Ateneo de Davao University-Junior High School (ADDU-JHS) received multiple awards from three international Math competitions in the past month.
Jasmine Rosita Belen, a student from ADDU-JHS, had recently participated in several international mathematics competitions held in Thailand and Singapore.
Belen joined Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) Final Round held in Pattaya, Thailand, from March 31 to April 3, 2023, where she received a Bronze Award.
Before TIMO, Belen also participated in the 4th International Math Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA) held in Singapore from March 24 to 27, 2023, where she was awarded a Bronze Award for the Individual Competition, and her team was recognized as the 2nd runner-up for the Team Competition.
From February 25 to March 1, 2023, she joined the 2023 International Talent Mathematics Contest (ITMC) in Bangkok, Thailand, where she received a Merit Award.
Rosalie Belen, Jasmine’s mother, said her daughter has always been a medalist of international math and science competitions since fourth grade.
“Nakitaan nako siya og potential since Grade 4, nakitaan nako siya og love for Math then because of trainings and encouragement sa iyahang mga teachers, nagbloom siya (I saw her potential since Grade 4, I saw her love for Math, and because of the training and encouragement from her teachers, she become more intelligent),” Belen said in an online interview.
Rosalie said her daughter’s achievements are more special as they were held outside the country.
“Ang nakaspecial man gud ani sa iyang kadaogan kay face-to-face na ni sila na mga competitions (Her winning competitions face-to-face makes her victories special for us),” Belen added.
Rosalie said she will always be supportive of her daughter to chase her dreams.
“[We are] very proud [as a family], as much as we can, we give all her support to her to chase her dreams,” Rosalie said. ICE
