THE Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) reported around 10,000 families affected by the flooding last Wednesday night, August 27.

CSSDO head Maria Luisa Bermudo said on Monday, September 2, 2019, that majority of the affected families are from barangays in Talomo District with almost 5,000, followed by the areas of Bangkal with almost 3,000 families.

However, Bermudo said the agency is still conducting validation for the processing of assistance to the affected families.

CSSDO initially reported that there were 3,559 affected families, mostly from four highly-affected barangays namely Los Amigos and Tugbok Proper of Tugbok District, Talomo of Talomo District, and Wangan of Wangan District.

Bermudo said they are still finalizing the master list of the affected victims before the financial assistance will be given per family.

"Ongoing na process of assistance. Paningkamutan namo na within the week makasugod na ta og hatag og financial na hinabang gikan sa city government (The processing of financial assistance is ongoing. Hopefully, we could distribute the aide from the city government within this week)," she said.

Recently, the 19th City Council approved the P50-million cash assistance to be given to the victims.

Bermudo said each family will receive P10,000.

Prior to this cash assistance, Bermudo said the city government had provided earlier assistance such as community food distribution and non-goods allocations.

She added that there are no more families staying at the evacuation centers.

With another weather disturbance in the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Bermudo said the residents and the public near riverbanks should be vigilant and heed warning advisories issued by the CDDRMO.

She also said the incident should serve as a "lesson learned" to immediately evacuate when early advisories are released.

Bermudo said its evacuation centers located in Los Amigos are open to calamity victims.
