DAVAO City First District Councilor Bernard Al-ag says he is open to having busking performers at the Roxas Night Market.

“I will bring this up to the night market management team kani siya sound system or pwede magbutang ta ug area, sila na magbutang ug sound system (we can put up an area where they will just set up a sound system), pwede ni siya, this is something we can introduce to the night market,” said Al-ag, the chairperson of the City Council Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry.

Busking is an activity of playing music in a public area for voluntary donations. Al-ag said they are open to having buskers to enliven the Roxas night market and at the same time showcase Dabawenyo talents.

Another innovation the city is planning to introduce is having food trucks in the night market.

“We will allow food trucks, we have designated areas where we can have food trucks. We have given authority to the Tiangge sa Katawhan Management Team to play on this new trend and we not just rely on stalls,” Al-ag said

“We have observed this new trend of food trucks, so we allowed in the ordinance that the management team will look for areas and to set-up spaces for food trucks,” Al-ag said.

The councilor added that the food trucks can provide added variety to foods offered in the night market. They also target customers who prefer higher-priced cuisines than the grilled foods that are predominant in the night market. The move is a means to level-up considering the number of private night markets being established across Davao City.

Councilor Al-ag said they are looking at the segment of Roxas Avenue near Quezon Boulevard as an area for food trucks.

He added that the amended night market ordinance will soon be signed by Mayor Sebastian Duterte and will put in place different night markets among the city’s three districts. On the pipeline are the night markets in Toril and along the old airport road in Sasa. (PIA-Davao)
