Davao firefighters training in Taiwan

THE first batch of the Davao City-Taiwan fire protection training is expected to kick off in August.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) regional director Senior Superintendent Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu confirmed during the turnover of two Rosenbauer fire trucks on Monday, July 2, at the City Hall that the friendly fire training program between the BFP and the Taiwan Fire Academy (TFA) is set to happen which will be held in Taiwan.

It will be a 15 to 30 days training at the Taiwan Fire Academy which is a 104-hectare facility that will help locals improve their firefighting skills.

Kwan Tiu said the trainees will be given free accommodation and board for the training. The BFP only needs to fund the fare, and he is hoping that the city government can shoulder this.

He added that the free training is the result of linkages they established with the TFA since last year.

The training will hone the skills and knowledge of Davao firefighters in responding to any form of calamities and fire suppression.

Tiu said they are waiting for the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Taiwan Fire Academy set in Manila this month to start choosing the participants.

“Right now, I am conceptualizing all programs of instructions, kung ano ang need ng isang city, dun ko po iaangkop yung POI sa atin o sa maipapadala natin and we keep on coordinating with them kung ano pa ang kaya nilang idagdag,” he said. (JCR/With Amanie R. Ya’cob, MSU-Marawi Intern)
