Davao police allay fear of participants

AMID the twin bombing incidents in Sultan Kudarat, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) assured the participants of big sports events planned in the city next year that stringent measures will be taken to thwart any untoward incidents.

“The hosting of national and international events in Davao City is the affirmation of the strength and resilience of our city with its people. Not because we know that we might die in an accident will it prevent us from traveling,” DCPO director Alexander Tagum said.

Tagum added, “We can secure our annual events with the security preparations that we are doing. We can overcome all of these.”

Davao City will be hosting national and international big-time sports events next year such as the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet, Ironman, Palarong Pambansa and National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Meet.

Tagum said, however, that he cannot blame the participants for feeling scared about taking part in the events following the series of bombings in Sultan Kudarat. (JCR)
