DESPITE the failure of election of the 2020 Philippine Councilor’s League (PCL) national election, PCL national chairman and Davao City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang will not resign from his post.

This comes after some councilors on social media called for Dayanghirang’s resignation, following the discrepancies and issues that surrounded the PCL election. One of them is former Philippine Councilor’s League (PCL) president Luis “Chavit” Singson.

“Because (Dayanghirang) is a (PCL national chairman) candidate and not supposed to spend millions of PCL funds for his own campaign,” Singson said in his Facebook account post.

“I condemn the technical glitch which tainted the integrity of PCL National Elections. It is frustrating that huge amount of government funds was put to waste when failure of elections was declared while we can resort to manual elections,” Singson also said.

He called for the resignation of all interim officers who are candidates until the PCL elects the new set of officers.

“We all know you spend P1 million every National Board Meeting. Please resign to unite and bring back the integrity of PCL,” Singson said.

Dayanghirang in a chance interview on Tuesday, March 3, said that while he respect Singson’s opinion, he said he will not step down since he has still need to follow the process mandated by the PCL constitution.

“I have my high respect to him, even if he is in the other side,” the councilor said, referring to the camp of Legazpi City Councilor Jesciel Richard Salceda.

Dayanghirang accused Salceda as the one behind the computer glitches that resulted in the PCL failure of election.

The local council said he will talk to Singson “in the proper time”.

He also said he will wait the decision of the PCL ad hoc committee board regarding the reschedule of the PCL election.

“My mind is to leave PCL without interference,” Dayanghirang said.

He said on Monday that he will be retiring from the City Council after 27 years of service.

He also said he is ready to give up his PCL position, saying does not need it. (RGL)
