THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will be giving a P1-million reward to the person who can lead them to the suspect in the killing of businesswoman Yvonne Chua.

“May concerned citizen nagbigay sa atin ng support to fast track our investigation for the implication of the suspect kung sino man ang makakabigay ng impormasyon sa identity ng bumaril (We have a concerned citizen who gave us support to fast track our investigation and implicate the suspect whoever can provide us information and the identity of the person who shot the victim),” PCol. Alberto Lupaz, DCPO Director, said during the press conference on January 3, 2023, at the DCPO Headquarters.

On December 29, 2022, Chua was killed outside of her house in Buttercup St. at Green Meadows Subdivision in Brgy. Sto. Niño, Tugbok District, Davao City by two unidentified gunmen using a .45 caliber gun.

Police Regional Office Davao Region (PRO-Davao) spokesperson PMaj. Eudisan Gultiano said the motive of the killing may be robbery.

“Ayon sa CCTV footage, ang unang ginawa ng gunman is talagang binaril agad, at para talagang gusto niya pang barilin ulit kaso lang nag-jam yong baril, tapos after that tsaka kinuha yong bag (Based on the CCTV footage, the first thing that the gunman did is to shoot the victim right away, they even attempted to shoot her again but the gun jammed. After shooting the victim, they took her bag),” Gultiano said.

She added that there was a clear intent to kill the victim.

“Inaalam pa natin kung meron pang people behind, kaya yon ang direction ng ating investigation (We are still investigating if there are people behind the murder, and this is where the focus of our investigation right now),” she said.

Aside from robbery, Gultiano said they are also considering personal grudge as one of the motives of the murder.

As of writing, Lupaz said they have two persons of interest but they could not disclose the information since they don’t have concrete evidence yet.

However, they did not confirm nor deny the involvement of a high government official who was named on social media due to an alleged post of the victim before she was killed on Facebook.

“Wala pa kasi talagang evidence pa na na-gather (We have not gathered any evidence yet),” Gultiano said.

Gultiano said they will be providing updates on the investigation once they gather additional evidence on the murder that could lead them to the person of interest. KSD
