THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reminded its police officers to adhere to the standard operating procedure in handling detainees inside the station.

This came after the police chief of Argao in Cebu was arrested in an entrapment operation by operatives of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group-Visayas on Thursday night, March 5, 2020 after he and a female drug inmate were caught inside his quarters at the police station.

Another detainee was also released to run errands at the station, which is against the law.

The two detainees were supposed to be locked up inside a cell but ended up sleeping in the police chief’s office inside the station.

Police Major Ildefonso Miranda Jr., 46, is facing multiple charges for violating Republic Act No. 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, direct bribery, and Article 156 of the Revised Penal Code.

DCPO director Colonel Kirby John Kraft said yesterday that such order is already part of their standard operating procedure and that police authorities have already known this policy.

He, however, said that there’s no reported case of such incident here in the city, adding that he will not tolerate such illicit activity.

“Hindi naman natin kailangan magpalabas ng directive tungkol diyan kasi standard operating procedure na natin yan. A detainee cannot get out of their detention cell kung walang court order. ‘Yon lang ang reference ng police kung magpalabas ng detainee,” Kraft said.
