DCPO to strengthen rehab program

AFTER discovering that only 40 percent of the city’s drug surrenderers underwent rehabilitation, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) plans to strengthen its community based rehabilitation and after care program (CBRAP).

DCPO Spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan said that based on their data, there were around 11,000 drug surrenderers who heeded the call of the government to abandon their illegal activities and seek for a reformed life in the city.

One of the challenges that they are facing in their Oplan Tokhang is how to entice these surrenderers to undergo the community-based rehabilitation program.

“That is one of our problem that is why we strengthen our partnership with other agencies especially the CBRAP,” she said in the vernacular.

Gaspan said some surrenderers have returned to their old ways.

The police CBRAP has partnered with the Ateneo de Davao University Center against Illegal Drugs (AdDU-CAID), which encourages individuals who are hesitant to surrender to the authorities, to approach them instead. (JCR)
