THE San Pedro Police Station has clarified that the deceased minor who was discovered on a boat at Purok 5, Bucana Seawall, Barangay 76-A, Davao City at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, is not the same individual who tragically drowned in Toril the previous Sunday. The investigation found no signs of foul play.

The victim's parents disclosed that their child had suffered from depression due to a health condition. The minor was last seen walking alone around 2 a.m. on the same day, heading towards the seawall.

Police Major Marvin Hugos, San Pedro Police station commander, said the investigation found no signs of foul play.

“Nalumos sya, wala ta'y nakita nga any signs of injury. Ang gibutyag sa inahan niya nga aduna kini depression ug natingala nalang sila nga nawala kini nya niadto sa dagat sya ra isa," Hugos said.

(He drowned, we didn't observe any signs of injury. His mother revealed that he had depression, and they were surprised that he went to the sea alone.)

The deceased is Charles John Loregas, 21 years old, male, single, and a resident of Purok 21, Manggahan, Bucana, Barangay 76-A, Davao City. The body is currently at Angel Funeral Homes for proper disposition.

In a separate incident earlier this week, the Central 911's Urban Search and Rescue (Usar) team responded to a tragic incident involving two individuals who drowned at a beach resort in Barangay Bago Aplaya, Davao City, on Sunday, September 3, 2023. Regrettably, this unfortunate event claimed the lives of a 13-year-old and a 19-year-old.

According to reports, both individuals were swimming despite the challenging conditions, marked by sizable and powerful waves attributed to the Hanging Habagat (Southwest Monsoon).
