THE Davao City Government clarified on Tuesday morning, July 27, 2021, that the resident who tested positive for Covid-19 Delta variant was not fully vaccinated when she tested positive for the virus.

In a clarificatory statement, the Davao City Information Office said the 28-year-old female patient received her first dose before exposure, while she received her second dose three days after isolation.

The statement came a day after the city confirmed its first case of the Delta variant.

The patient was swabbed on June 26, 2021, after her exposure to a confirmed symptomatic Covid-19 case at her workplace.

"The Davao City Health Office received the confirmatory results of the surveillance test from the UP-Philippine Genome Center on July 24, 2021," the City said.

It added that the patient has completed the required isolation period of 14 days and has since recovered.

"The Davao City Epidemiology Surveillance and Disaster Response Unit of the City Health Office will conduct reinvestigation, repeat testing, and isolation in coordination with the Department of Health Davao Region up to the third generation contacts of the case," the local government said.

Meanwhile, the Davao Covid-19 Task Force reminded Dabawenyos to continuously adhere to the minimum health standards to prevent the spread of the virus.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said on July 26 that the City Government will not be requesting the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to place the entire city under stricter quarantine status amid the recent detection of the highly contagious variant.

“It’s the same virus, so we test, trace, isolate or treat if there is a need for hospitalization,” the mayor said in an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.

DOH-Davao confirmed on July 25 that the two Delta variant-infected specimens were from Tagum City in Davao del Norte and Davao City.

"Both were tagged as recovered already but still need to isolate due to pending repeat RT-PCR [reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction] tests," DOH-Davao said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Tagum CHO Chief Dr. Arnel Florendo said in a virtual presser on Monday, July 26, that the highly infectious Delta variant (B.1.617.2) of the Covid-19 might have caused the surge in cases in the Tagum for the past weeks.

Florendo said the patient, who had no travel history outside Tagum City and had mild symptoms, is fully immunized.

DOH-Davao said a total of 79 variants of concerns were detected in the region, after 593 samples were sent by the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit to the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center from June 3 to July 1, 2021.
