Demolition of fire-hit mall nearly complete

AFTER four months, the contractor commissioned to demolish the New City Commercial Center (NCCC) Mall Davao is expected to turn over the demolished building to the management by September 19.

Thea Padua, NCCC spokesperson and public relations manager, told SunStar Davao that D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) has nearly completed the task.

She said that as of September 3, the contractor achieved a 78 percent total accomplishment. Also, around 75 percent of the mall has been demolished and 65 percent of the debris has been hauled.

It can be recalled that the demolition team started to clear the razed building last May 18 after applying for a demolition permit and then getting a clearance from the Inter Agency Anti-Arson Task Force to commence its destruction.

Meanwhile, cases have been filed against 33 individuals for the December 23, 2017 fire that gutted the NCCC Mall Davao and took the lives of 38 individuals.
