DEPARTMENT of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. urged the assailant behind the killing of businesswoman Yvonne Chua to surrender.

Abalos was in Davao City on Friday, January 6, where he personally met with the family of the slain victim inside the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).

The Interior Secretary also had a closed-door meeting with the members of the special investigation task group (SITG) who will be in charge of probing the case.

In an ambush interview, Abalos assured that justice will be served to Chua, who was shot outside of her house on Buttercup St. at Green Meadows Subdivision in Brgy. Sto. Niño, Tugbok District, Davao City by two unidentified gunmen on December 29, 2022.

He also warned the shooter to surrender soonest or he might face consequences in the longer run.

"Mag-ingat ka baka mamaya, 'yung mismong nag-utos sa'yo ang papatay sa'yo. Kaya kung ako sa iyo magdalawang isip ka na. Mas mabuti nang sumuko ka na," the official said in a report from PTV Davao.

Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-Davao) Regional Director Brigadier General Benjamin Silo Jr. also said they will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Tuesday, December 3, announced that it will give a P1 million reward to anyone who can lead them to the suspect of the murder.

Meanwhile, 1001st Brigade Commander General Jess Durante said in a text message to SunStar Davao earlier that he denied involvement in the killing of Chua, whom he called a "friend."

Durante also urged police to investigate and catch the culprit of the shooting incident. RGL
