The Department of Energy (DOE) is warning the public of the dangers "bote-bote" petroleums, which may cause lives and properties if mishandled.

This is with the observed rampant proliferation of illegal sale of liquid fuels (i.e., gasoline, diesel) in “bote-bote.”

DOE-Mindanao Field Office Director Nilo Geroche said that since the sellers are unknown, the quality and quantity of gasoline sold are also uncertain.

Geroche added that they also do not have permits from the Bureau of Fire Protection and local government units.

It also pointed out that retail gasoline vendors are also not inspected by the DOE, unlike gas stations.

Geroche explained that gasoline stations are also obliged to give the name of their suppliers to the DOE so that the public who patronizes them can be more assured of their safety.

According to the Department Circular No. DC2003-11-010 or the Retail Rules of the bote-bote, the selling of gasoline and diesel packed on soda bottles, plastic bottles, jugs, among others is prohibited. EEF
