DAVAO City assistant administrator Tristan Dwight Domingo said the city is finalizing the waste water treatment facility as it still undergoing feasibility study.

The ongoing feasibility study, which is being conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2021.

Domingo said Magsaysay Park is being eyed as one of the pilot area for the treatment facility.

Although the viability and sustainability of the area would still depend upon the finding of Jica's study.

"We are looking into the design and the acceptability of the public whether it is in line with the City's Development Plan," Domingo said.

Under the Infrastructure Mondernization for Davao City (IM4-Davao) study made by Jica, the city aims to build the waste water treatment facility nearby coastal areas.

The IM4Davao is a 27-year plan, worth P298.4 billion, aims to have six sewerage treatment parks being planned in different areas of the city.

"Although the waste water treatment facility in the Magsaysay Park is not yet final, we are proposing to have it located nearby coastal areas because these are the areas where the water from the uplands or all over the city passes before it reaches the sea," Domingo said.

The city official also said the sewerage management system is also included in the study.

The lack of the city's sewerage treatment system was pointed out in Jica's previous study.

However, Domingo said the project still requires additional funding, which the city will strive to look into.

"It requires billions of pesos in order to have an effective sewerage management system. That is why they recommend it to have it phase by phase," he said.

Domingo said the city will also be seeking help from the Department of Public Works and Highways in looking for possible funds. (RGL)
