TEOFILO "Lolo Pilo" Gamutan, a World War II veteran, church servant, and music lover, has been a beloved figure in Davao City since he moved here in the 1960s.

Born on July 10, 1923, Lolo Pilo's century-long journey has been marked by steadfast resilience, persevering faith, exceptional service, and enduring contributions to his community.

As he steps into his 100th year, his life and legacy inspire the community, echoing a century of commitment, resilience, and faith.

Lolo Pilo's journey started in Valencia, Bohol, then moved to Baculin, Baganga, where he laid the foundation of his family life.

In the 1960s, he relocated to Davao City and has remained a treasured resident. As a World War II veteran and the city's oldest living war veteran, Lolo Pilo's influence is far-reaching, shaping the city's history while continuing to touch lives in the present.

Marking Lolo Pilo's 100th birthday, a three-fold celebration is set to take place from July 8 to July 10, 2023. This series of events honors one of Davao City's oldest and most respected citizens.

The celebration kicks off on July 8 in the morning. Guided by their father's legacy of service, the Gamutan family, led by Remie Gamutan-Timbreza, will have an outreach activity and donation to Co Su Gian Home for the Aged Davao City. This generous gesture symbolizes Lolo Pilo's impactful role as the Senior Citizens Group officer, Agdao chapter for a long time.

Later in the day, the Gamutan Family will open the doors of the Davao Convention Center, Hall A, for a public event featuring an art exhibition titled "Symphony of Sights," -- a multimedia exhibition with photographs, paintings by budding local artists, and displayed items. There will also be a special art film screening directed by local filmmaker EJ Fernandez of EFF.

A coffee table book written and arranged by Eva M. Fernandez, also of EFF, will be launched to add to the day's festivities. These artistic endeavors collectively pay tribute to the remarkable life and legacy of Lolo Pilo.

On July 10, the celebration crescendos with an intimate event at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, where family, friends, and esteemed community members will gather to pay homage to Lolo Pilo's life of service and unwavering community spirit.

As Lolo Pilo reaches this milestone birthday, Davao City extends an open invitation on July 8, 2023, to celebrate his dedication to community, family, and faith - a tribute to a man who embodies the city's spirit of service, resilience, and faith. PR
