Iacat-Davao conducts poster-making tilt

THE Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking (Iacat 11) staged an on-the-spot poster-making contest in celebration of the World Day against Trafficking in Person at Abreeza Ayala Mall, Davao City, Monday, July 30.

Some 60 students from different public schools like the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) and Sta. Ana National High School (SANHS), among others, participated in this event with the theme “Kapakanan ng kabataan pangalagaan, human trafficking ay labanan.”

In preparation for the said event, Iacat Region 11 Deputy Regional Prosecutor Barbara Flores said in an interview with SunStar Davao that they have been conducting orientation in different schools in the region.

She also said that they aim to reach out to the youth, adding that poster making is a tangible activity that will show if they have learned what human trafficking is all about.

“The 12 entries that will be chosen in this contest will be publicized in our next year’s calendar,” she said.

Flores also said that from 12 students, the final three winners will be bared on December 12 which is the International Day against Trafficking in Person.

She underscored that one of the criteria in choosing the top three is by Facebook shares. These shares are an avenue to raise awareness against human trafficking and to reach out to the public.

Alma Acera, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Davao Region Project Development Officer 3 and IACAT Regional Secretariat, added that people should spread consciousness to protect themselves from perpetuators. (Abigail Joyce C. Cahiwat, MSU-Marawi intern/with JCR)
