LPA to affect Davao Region

THE Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) urged the public to strictly follow advisories as the low pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Saturday, January 19, which may affect Davao Region.

“Ang LPA posibleng makaapekto sa Davao Region, busa mag binantayon kitang tanan (The LPA may possibly affect Davao Region, that is why we should remain vigilant),” CDRRMO head Rodrigo Bustillo said in a Facebook message to SunStar Davao Saturday.

“Kung maghatag kami ug advisories nga pag pahawa sa mga lugar nga flood-prone ug landslide prone, dili kita mag magahi sa pagtuman ka kini ang sigirado nga makaluwas kanato, ayaw na pag paabot nga kamo e-rescue (If we give advisory to evacuate the place, especially in flood-prone areas, just follow it. Let us not wait to be rescued),” he added.

In the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on same day, the LPA which would likely to develop into a tropical depression (TD) shall be named Amang.

“On Sunday, January 20, at 8 a.m. TD Amang is estimated at 100 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur; will be cloudy to overcast with occasional rains becoming moderate to sometimes heavy as TD Amang develops during the period and will get closer to mindanao.”

Pagasa also expects on Sunday that the Bicol Region, Mindoro, Romblon, Masbate, Eastern part of Western Visayas, Central Visayas and the rest of Mindanao to experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies and light rains may happen in the eastern portion of Cagayan Valley Region while in Palawan and the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila will be partly cloudy with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. (LHC)
