LTFRB Davao Region apprehends 49 colorum vehicles

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)- Davao Region recorded an increase in apprehension of colorum transport vehicles by 226 percent in 2018.

LTFRB- Davao Region director lawyer Cattleya Acaylar revealed during the LTFRB yearender report press conference that there were 49 units that were apprehended this year compared to only 15 apprehensions in 2017.

Acaylar also revealed that the office has netted a total penalty of P5,890,000 in 2018 with the apprehension compared to only P1,000,000 in 2017.

She added that the units are composed of all denomination of public vehicles such as buses, vans, and taxis.

She said that the public vehicles will be considered as colorum if the private vehicle operates as public utility vehicle; if the vehicle operates outside of its approved route; if the vehicle operates differently from authorized denomination; and if the vehicle is still operating despite its franchise being suspended or cancelled.

Acaylar also added that during their anti-colorum operation the apprehended unit will be impounded while its passengers will be delivered to their destinations by the LTFRB’s team to avoid inconvenience during travel period.

“Rest assured, this office (LTFRB- Davao region) will intensify its fight in accordance with the President’s directive on the crackdown of colorum vehicles,” Acaylar said. (RJC)
