Man nabbed for claiming he is NPA to extort a bizman

A MAN was arrested after he was caught in an entrapment operation by the Baliok Police when he identified himself as a member of the New People's Army (NPA) and extorted money from a businessman.

The operation occurred at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Purok 4, Nalum, Brgy. Baliok, Davao City.

According to the spot report of the Baliok Police, the suspect was identified as Ronald Lumigid Ibaya, 29, married, laborer, and resident of Purok Biho, Brgy. Banlag, Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

The suspect was first captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, who put a paper on the businessman's car at DLF Village, Brgy. Dumoy, Davao City.

The paper has a written note saying that the NPA is asking for P200,000, which is supposed to be for medical, ammunition, and provisions supply for the movement.

The entrapment operation was immediately conducted where the suspect was caught in the act of accepting the envelope with boodle money.

A sling bag and a grenade were recovered from the suspect's position.

The suspect was immediately handcuffed and will face a case of robbery extortion. JPC
