Man shot dead after stabbing passenger

A MAN who was onboard a bus was killed by a responding policeman Tuesday morning after stabbing one of the passengers at Kilometer 6, C.P. Garcia Highway, Buhangin, Davao City.

Based on the report by Buhangin Police Station commander Police Chief Inspector Peter John Muring, suspect Junie Singson Luceño, 41 stabbed Joel Terampos Salazar, 33, while onboard the Golden Valley Bus, for no apparent reason.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. while the bus was traversing the

highway going towards the south of the city.

His brother, Winnie, 43, tried to pacify the suspect but he was uncontrollable, according to witnesses.

The bus driver pulled over the vehicle near Buhangin underpass as the incident caused commotion and passengers were seen jumping out of the bus.

Minutes later, a member of the Traffic Group of the Davao police stationed at Km. 6 responded and tried to pacify the suspect.

But Luceño attacked the responding officer and attempted to stab him using a kitchen knife.

Accordingly, the police officer was forced to shoot the suspect.

The suspect succumbed to gunshot wounds in different parts of his body causing his death.

Recovered from the crime scene were two fired cartridges of 9mm ammunition and one piece stainless kitchen knife.

These are now under the custody of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) team while the involved police was placed in the custody of Buhangin Police Station including his issued firearm, a 9mm Glock 17 with magazine loaded ammunitions.

Salazar sustained stab wounds in different parts of his body and was rushed to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for medical treatment.
