THE Mati City Government warned the public against a bogus online shop in the city that has already victimized many buyers.

In a press statement issued by the Mati City Information Office (CIO) on Monday, July 5, 2021, the City said it received various complaints against an online Facebook page, “Davao Gadgets Online,” whose address is said to be on 89 Rizal Street and which has been selling gadgets online at a cheap price.

"They would allegedly ask for downpayment from interested buyers and once payment was made, the victim will be readily blocked from messaging their [Facebook] Page," the City said.

The local government also said the buyers would no longer get a reply when they would like to check their orders.

Due to the number of complaints reported, the Mati CIO immediately responded and inspected the store’s location.

"As a result of the numerous inquiries we received, the Mati City Information Office decided to check the supposed store of this online seller and it was found to be non-existent," it said.

The Business Permits and Licensing Office also confirmed that the shop is not registered and no seller by the name of “Davao Gadgets Online” is on their roster.

"We are issuing this announcement to warn the public against dealing with online business sellers who have no business permits," the city said.

The local government also invited owners of all online businesses in the city to register their business to legitimize their transactions.

The City also urged the public to be cautious in dealing with online sellers. (Kris Ilagan, NDDU Intern)
