Mayor lauds Davao cops

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio lauded the overall performance of local security forces through the implementation of various anti-criminality and anti-terrorism initiatives that reduced crime volume.

Crime in the city dropped 37.6 percent to 2,671 from January to June 2018 as compared to 4,278 in the same period last year.

During the State of the City Address (Soca) yesterday at Sangguniang Panglungsod, Duterte-Carpio commended the efforts of law enforcement agencies.

“We thank and commend the guardians of our safety and security for their continuing vigilance and sustained effectiveness in preventing and controlling the persistent threats of criminality, terrorism and insurgency in our city. They are the men and women who always lose sleep so that soundly, we can,” she said.

As to the crime index, from January to June 2018, authorities recorded 2,079 non-index crime and 592 index crime with a total crime volume of 2,671, a 37.6 percent decrease from last year’s data of 4,278. Of which, 3,468 were non-index crimes and 790 were index crimes.

Meanwhile, from July to December 2016 the non-index crimes reached 3,337 and 972 index crimes were recorded with a total crime volume of 4,309.

From July to December 2017, DCPO likewise noted 2,500 non-index crimes and 798 index crimes.

She attributed the drop of the crime with the conduct of several operations such as Oplan: Bulabog or Counter Terrorism-Manhunt Operations, Oplan: Lambat Bitag Sasakyan or Road Clearing Operations and other Anti-Criminality Operations.

Since the launching of Oplan Sagop Kabataan last year, Davao cops conducted a total of 602 operations and with that operation, they were able to rescue some 1,717 youth and children from January to June 2018. Oplan Sagop Kabataan is the integration of all the guidelines and procedures on the rescue of minors for a unified law enforcement in addressing issues of children in conflict with the law (CICL) and children at risk (CAR), and out of school youths that are being used to commit crimes.

Meanwhile, DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum thanked the mayor for recognizing their efforts in carrying out their duties.

“I am deeply humbled by that recognition bestowed to DCPO by our Mayor Sara. That public recognition is more than all the awards that were received by my Command in recent months and that will surely boost the morale of the officers, men and women of DCPO who will be more persistent and earnest in their performance to improve their social service and protection to the people of Davao City,” Tagum said.
