DAVAO de Oro tops the safety, respect, and trust index in Davao Region in the fourth quarter of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa) survey for the Police Regional Office Davao Region (PRO-Davao).

According to MinDa’s survey, Davao de Oro ranked first in the safety index with 91.6 percent, followed by Davao Oriental with 89.8 percent, Davao Occidental in third place with 89.5 percent, Davao del Sur in fourth place with 89.3 percent, Davao City in fifth place with 89.1 percent, and Davao del Norte with 88.7 percent.

In the trust index, Davao de Oro ranked first with 92 percent, Davao del Sur in second place with 90.1 percent, tied in third place are Davao City and Davao Occidental with 89.9 percent, Davao Oriental in fourth place with 89.8 percent and Davao del Norte in fifth place with 89.6 percent.

Davao de Oro got 92.5 percent in the respect index which is the highest rate, followed by Davao Oriental in second place with 91.1 percent, Davao Occidental in third place with 90.9 percent, tied in fourth pace are Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte with 90.7 percent and Davao City in fifth place with 90.5 percent.

Adrian Tamayo, public relations of MinDa, said during the AFP-PNP press conference on January 18, 2023, one of the factors that affect the rankings is the influence of information shared online or in the news.

“Pag-naay gamay na information or disinformation, ginakaon siya [sa publiko] (If there’s any information or disinformation shared in public, people will consume it),” Tamayo said.

He added that usually, what happens or the news in Davao City affects the other provinces in the region.

“Sentro man gud si Davao City, so kung unsay mahitabo kay Davao City murag mo-spill over siya sa ubang lugar (Because Davao City is the center city in Davao Region, so whatever happens here it will affect the neighboring cities and provinces),” Tamayo said.

He said this is also the reason why the third quarter of their survey result shows that all provinces' rates have gone down although there are no significant changes or issues except in Davao City.

Meanwhile, Tamayo said most respondents from ages 30 years old and below have recorded the lowest index rating while the senior citizens from ages 60 years old and above gave the highest rating.

“Kaning mga 30 years old and below mao ni sila ang pinakapaspas mo-share og information while kaning nag-edad og 60 pataas maoy pinakataas og rating (People aged 30 years old and below are those who are the fastest to share information while those who are 60 years old and above gave the highest rating) because these are those individuals who could compare what happened many years back,” Tamayo said.

Despite the quarterly changes in rankings and rating, Tamayo said Davao Region is safe as it shows a satisfactory index rating of 90 percent, while the overall trust index is 91 percent and the respect index is 90 percent. KSD
