More cops in some Davao region areas

WITH the prevailing political rivalry in some areas in Davao region, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao said additional policemen will be deployed in the provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur.

Deputy regional director for operations (DRDO) Police Colonel Eden Ugale said on Wednesday, May 8, that because of the monitored intense political rivalry in these areas of concern, more personnel will be augmented to ensure the peaceful conduct of the 2019 midterm election on Monday.

“I was tapped to lead the contingent and I had my initial coordination with the provincial director para ma-plan out ang deployment ng additional pwersa ng kapulisan,” Ugale said.

Earlier, the brother of incumbent Mayor Rhodora “Doray” Alcoran of New Corella, identified as Rogelio Serrano Jr., 44, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Purok 4, Barangay Poblacion, New Corella, Davao Del Norte. He was the Administrative Aide 1 in the Municipality of New Corella.

“Isa ito sa tinitignan natin ngayon. The regional director has instructed to deploy additional police officers in the province of Davao del Norte to closely monitor particularly the first district of the province,” he said, adding that they are also looking at Davao del Sur province as the place where they will augment police forces as well.

He said that as far as the investigation is concerned, the case of the death of Alcoran’s brother is still ongoing to determine it is related to politics.

“Right now they are conducting follow up investigation. I have talked to the provincial director and they are in close coordination with the mayor at inaalam pa ang circumstances that will lead to the possible identification (of the suspect/s),” he said.
