Navy seizes P13.8-M 'smuggled cigarettes in Igacos

DUE to the intensified Joint Law Enforcement Operation of the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) and the Bureau of Customs (BoC) Davao against smuggling activities, a ship was intercepted in the Davao Gulf, on Sunday evening, July 9, 2023, where it was carrying millions worth of smuggled cigarettes.

According to the report of NFEM, authorities intercepted a Jungkung vessel loaded with smuggled cigarettes off the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) in Davao del Norte on Sunday evening, July 9.

The vessel named "FB ALYASRA-2," loaded the mixed cigarettes, that had a total of 468 master cases of the Canon brand with a street value of P13,806,000.

NFEM said the goods were transported from Sulu and allegedly, intended to dock in Davao City before it was intercepted by authorities.

The vessel was taken to Naval Station Felix Apolinario for temporary custody, where its 10 crew members were taken to Camp Panacan Hospital for their medical check-up.

The confiscated evidence and the crew of the said boat are now in the proper disposition of the BoC-Davao. (JPC)
