A REGIONAL Civil Service Unit - Davao Region official (RCSU-Davao) assures the public that there are no reported public officials possessing loose firearms.

This was raised after a municipal mayor and his two brothers was reportedly arrested for illegal possession of firearms and explosives last June 17 in Batangas.

"We are thankful for our constituents dito sa Region 11 (Davao Region) that we have no such case as of this date," PCol Richard Verceles said during Kapihan sa PIA at NCCC Mall VP, June 23.

Verceles also said that they are continuing to strengthen their campaign against loose firearms by constantly doing the Revitalized Oplan Katok among individuals possessing firearms.

He also said because of these efforts by the RCSU-Davao, they had already achieved to lessen loose firearms in the region "from around 20,000 to less than 10,000" firearms within this year.

Strengthening these efforts will also be in preparation for the incoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

"From 11th out of 17 regions, we are now number one in renewing and licensing loose firearms," Verceles said.

In addition, Verceles also said although there are loose firearms, there were no recorded firearms that had been used in crime.

He added that there are also no firearms used in a private army or groups illegally as well.
