NPA condemned for kidnapping soldier, militiamen

THE Philippine Army’s 10TH Infantry Division (ID) condemned the New People’s Army (NPA) for taking unarmed government trooper and a militiaman as captives last week.

Captain Jerry Lamosao, 10th ID Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) chief said on Thursday, June 14, that they have no lead yet as to the location of the captured security forces.

“Wala pa ta’y lead somehow ang atong kasundalohan in particular sa 28th IB. Nagapadayon sa pa-ngitag information ug ang pursuit operation nakatoon sa boundaries sa Davao Oriental ug Compostela Valley Province (We have no lead yet, in particular the 28th IB. The information gathering and hot pursuit operation continues focusing in the boundaries of Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley province),” he said.

On June 10, members of the communist group kidnapped Corporal Johannes Pareño, who was assigned at “A” company of 28th Infantry Battalion (IB), and Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) Dindo Sagayno, assigned to “B” Company 72nd IB based in Barangay Taguipo, Mati City, Davao Oriental.

Lamosao assured the public that they will do their best to rescue the soldiers and make the responsible personalities accountable.

“Una gina kondenar namo nga gihimo sa Davao Oriental particular diri sa Mati ang ilang pag violate sa CAHRIHL (Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law) kay tungod katong sundalo ug Cafgu they were unarmed (We condemn what the group did in Mati, Davao Oriental. They violated the CAHRIHL because the soldier and Cafgu were unarmed),” Lamosao said.

During the time of the incident, the soldiers came from an administrative activity and they were not required to carry firearms.

They are urging the NPA to release the captives and surrender to the authorities.

“Nagapadayon ta sa information gathering aron ang mga pamilya sa naabduct matagaan pa nato ug kasiguradohan nga buhi nato makuha ang maong sundalo ug CAFGU (We continue with our information and at the same time keep the family members of the abducted officers up to date. We want to assure them that we will rescue them alive),” Lamosao said. (JCR)
