AROUND P30 million worth of newly-procured firearms and equipment were distributed on Saturday, December 22, to different police units under Police Regional Office Davao Region as part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP’s) effort to strengthen the police force’s security capability.

PRO Davao Region director Police Chief Superintendent Marcelo Morales said the national headquarters had given them 450 Galil assault rifle and 410 Emtan assault rifle made in Israel.

These rifles were distributed to different mobile force companies of the region including the mobile force of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Davao del Norte Police Provincial Police Office, Davao Occidental PPO, Compostela Valley PPO, Davao Oriental PPO, Davao del Sur PPO and the regional headquarters.

Different units also acquired Kevlar helmets, Global Positioning System (GPS) devices, investigation case, and ballistic shield for various Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) teams of PRO Davao Region.

These were procured by the Philippine National Police (PNP) through General Appropriation Act (GAA).

Meanwhile, DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum thanked the PNP regional office for the additional law enforcement resources which he said will be a great help in the security coverage in Davao City to combat threats.

“We would like to assure our regional director and the public that we will utilize this to the best of our ability to make our service more effective in securing the peace and order of the city,” Tagum said.
