SEVEN years after its initial plan, renovation of the Bankerohan Public Market is still pending, said the Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization.

“Naa pa gyud ginaayos nga titulo kay murag ang title aning didto sa Bankerohan kay wala pay saktong papeles (There are still issues with the documents specifically the land title but it has been taken care of),” Davao City Councilor Edgar Ibuyan Sr., Chairperson of the committee on government enterprises and privatization, said in an interview on Davao City Disaster Radio on December 27, 2022.

The market is currently on private property and consultation is being done with regard to its renovation plans.

The renovation of the Bankerohan Public Market was initially planned in 2016. The plan was dubbed the Bankerohan Modernization project which was expected to start in 2018.

According to the Department of Agriculture (DA) in a previous interview with former Secretary Manny Piñol, they are aiming to make it not only just a wet market but also a farmers’ exchange center in the city.

The renovation project will make it possible for the city's main public market to be converted into a clean, mall-like supermarket with contemporary amenities including food storage for produce and meat goods.

Meanwhile, the renovation of the Agdao Public Market is nearly done and expected to open soon. The market was allocated a total of P740 million budget which was appropriated by the DA. KSD
